Election officials and observers said Friday they were pleased with the launch of election campaigning, which saw fewer violence than in past election periods.

National Election Committee Secretary-General Tep Nitha said the national agency had consistently strengthened its work at the local level to help parties and authorities ensure a smoother process.

The first two days were free from incident, save for a few traffic accidents, he said.

Mar Sophal, an investigator for the Committee for Free and Fair Elections, said Firday the first two days had gone well.

National Democratic Institute official Ly Sothearayuth noted no violence.

Observers say this election period has seen less violence than others, though before the campaign several incidents of violence were reported.
