Vietnamese leaders satisfied with links to Cambodia

VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese State and National Assembly leaders expressed pleasure at developments in the relations between Vietnam and Cambodia. They made this statement while receiving Chairman of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Samdec Chea Sim in Hanoi on Nov. 26.

President Nguyen Minh Triet said “Vietnam will always be a trustworthy friend and neighbour of Cambodia.”

He congratulated the CPP on its victory in recent elections and the establishment of the National Assembly and the cabinet for its fourth term.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong said that the time-honoured relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has withstood the test of time and is growing effectively across a broad spectrum.

Chairman Trong valued the regular exchange of high-level visits between the two countries that providing opportunities for the sharing of experiences in national construction and the fostering of bilateral ties.

Emphasising the important role and position played by the national assemblies in each country’s political arena, Chairman Trong said he would like to see the relationship and cooperation between the two law-making bodies to be developed further, and contribute to the growth of bilateral ties.

CPP Chairman Chea Sim informed the Vietnamese leaders that his visit aims to manifest sincere sentiments, friendship and cooperation with the Party of Vietnam in particular and Vietnam in general, noting that “Cambodia has always treasured its friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.”

The CPP Chairman said that he reached a consensus with Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh that the two countries’ friendship and comprehensive cooperation should be promoted more intensively in order to attain new heights.

He praised the national assembly’s role in encouraging the governments to implement previously-signed cooperation agreements for the sake of each nation and thanked the Vietnamese National Assembly for the support and assistance it has given to the Cambodian National Assembly and Senate.

The CPP Chairman said he hoped that the two law-making bodies would further consolidate their ties and help to enhance the two countries’ solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
