In Brief: Govt helps russia attend asem meet

Cambodia is to help Russia in its bid to join the upcoming Asia-Europe Meeting, which will be held on May 27-28, said Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the meeting between Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and outgoing Russian Ambassador Valery Y Tereshchenko on Wednesday. Tereshchenko will end his mission term May 7 after four years and seven months in Cambodia.


In Brief: 52 RCAF to attend Indonesia training

Fifty-two members of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces will depart June 5 to participate in military exercises in Indonesia, said Suong Khunny, deputy director general of the Institute for Peacekeeping Forces, Mines and ERW (Explosive Remains of War) Clearance. He added that this would be the third time that Cambodia had sent RCAF personnel to participate in military exercises outside Cambodia.


In Brief: PM considering asean summit

Prime Minister Hun Sen is considering whether to attend the upcoming Asean summit, following the dramatic collapse of the April 10 Pattaya meeting due to protests by Thailand's "red shirt" opposition, said Koy Kuong, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced Tuesday that the Asean summit would now be held by May in the beach resort of Phuket.
