Cambodian, Lao officials welcomed

HA NOI — Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh affirmed yesterday Viet Nam’s consistent policy of developing relations with Cambodia and Laos and its determination to lift those relations to new levels.

The Party leader made the affirmation while receiving high-ranking delegations from Laos, headed by Saman Vinhaket, a Lao People’s Revolutionary Party Politburo member, and from Cambodia, led by Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam On.

The two delegations are visiting Viet Nam to participate in celebrations for late President Ho Chi Minh’s 119th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail.

Manh said he hoped that relevant ministries, agencies and localities in Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam would work closely to effectively implement bilateral agreements and treaties, and co-operative agreements between the three countries.

In particular he highlighted the Viet Nam-Laos-Cambodia development triangle agreement signed between the three Prime Ministers to bring practical benefits to the people in the three countries and for peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.

He expressed his thanks for the assistance the Parties, States and people of Cambodia and Laos had given to Viet Nam during its struggle for national construction and defence.

Manh applauded achievements made by the Cambodian and Lao people in many fields over the past years, which he said would help encourage the Party, State and people of Viet Nam during their renewal and national construction and defence process.

In reply, Saman Vinhaket and Men Sam On expressed their gratitude to services rendered to the national liberation of the three countries by late President Ho Chi Minh.

They affirmed that the Parties, States and people of Cambodia and Laos would do their best to enhance and develop the friendship, special relations and comprehensive co-operation between Laos and Viet Nam and the traditional friendship and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term co-operation between Cambodia and Viet Nam.

They lauded great achievements made by Vietnamese people during the country’s renewal and national construction and defence under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

They thanked the Party, State and people of Viet Nam for the assistance given to Cambodia and Laos during their struggles for national liberation and the continued support during the current national construction and development process.— VNS
