NIGERIANS ACCUSED OF DRUG SMUGGLING
At least 17 Nigerians were arrested Wednesday in Phnom Penh's Dangkor district for alleged drug smuggling. Three men, who are believed to be in charge, were arrested with nearly a kilogram of heroin they were going to smuggle overseas via Phnom Penh International Airport, according to Dangkor district police Chief Born Sam Ath. A concerned woman tipped off the police, saying she was suspicious that the three men were carrying very heavy suitcases. Police stopped the tuk-tuk carrying the three, who are believed to be the masterminds of a massive drug-trafficking ring of Africans in Phnom Penh. The heroin was concealed inside giant buttons on the clothes the men were wearing. Another 14 men were detained for questioning. According to the confessions, the men have been running drugs out of Cambodia through the International Airport for some time.

Two unidentified men shoot student
A Cambodian student who had just returned from studying in the US was shot by two attackers late Tuesday while driving with his new girlfriend on his motorbike in Daun Penh district. The man, Khat Phana, 23, was shot once through the back of his waist and is at Calmette Hospital. The victim's girlfriend said the couple were riding along the river when two men began to chase them, demanding they stop or be shot. Khat Phana ignored the threat and was shot.

Mine kills one cow, wounds two others
One cow was killed and two others severely wounded after detonating a mine on Monday near a pagoda in Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province. According to Svay Chek district police, the three cows belong to Noy Chanduong. A female cow stood on the mine, which killed her instantly and wounded the other two male cows who were grazing nearby.

DRUNKEN MAN AND AX SENT TO COURT
Poipet commune police reported arresting a deeply drunken man on Sunday after the man threatened villagers with his ax. The man is at the provincial police station with his ax as evidence so they can decide whether to send him to provincial court for further investigation, police said. Villagers said the man always behaved in a risky way when he was drunk.
