June 17, 2009

Vietnamese and Cambodian generals have agreed to continue to reinforce their military co-operation to strengthen their traditional relationship and the comprehensive long-standing co-operation between both countries and two armies.

The agreement was reached by General Le Van Dung, Chief of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army and General Neang Phat, State Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia during talks in Hanoi on June 16.

Future co-operation will focus on the exchange of visits, training, logistics, technologies and sharing of experiences on political and ideological education, treatment policies for soldiers and other issues of mutual concern.

During their talks, the two generals discussed the issues facing their countries as well as regional and international matters. They also reviewed the results of co-operation between the Vietnamese People's Army and the Cambodian Royal Army in the past.

Earlier at the welcoming ceremony, General dung said that the Cambodia officers' visit would contribute to boosting mutual understanding between the two countries and the two armies in particular, helping to strengthen their ties even further.
