VN-Cambodia to speed up demarcation of border area

11-06-2009
HA NOI — Viet Nam and Cambodia are searching for locations to install markers on their common border.

Joint Committee representatives met earlier this week at a two-day ad hoc meeting in Siem Reap and reviewed the implementation of agreements reached in HCM City in March at the committee’s third round of negotiations on border demarcation.

They agreed on measures, such as using the Global Positioning System (GPS), to speed up the border demarcation work. Viet Nam will also help train map specialists for Cambodia so the operation can be completed quickly.

Representatives were unanimous in their desire to observe the statute on border management and ensure stability for the areas during the demarcation work.

The meeting was chaired by Viet Nam’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son and Var Kim Hong, the Cambodian Senior Minister in charge of Border Affairs in the Council of Ministers. — VNS
