Vietnamese, Cambodian young people strengthen ties

07/01/2009

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) and the Youth Association of Cambodia (YAC) will get together and take part in a number of activities and send delegations to each other’s countries to attend important events in 2009 and 2010.

A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed by both organizations in Phnom Penh during an official visit to Cambodia by Lam Phuong Thanh, Permanent Secretary of the Central Committee of the HCYU, from June 27-July 1.

The HCYU delegation met with YAC representatives, headed by Men Kuon. They briefed each other on their respective organizations’ activities and their experiences to enhance mutual understanding and friendship between young people from both countries.

They agreed that they would submit to their superiors a proposal to launch a series of friendship meetings between Vietnamese and Cambodian young people at national and provincial levels. They also agreed to encourage both countries’ provinces, especially those near the border, to hold friendship exchanges for young people in a practical and effective way.

During their stay in Cambodia, the Vietnamese delegation paid visits to the Cambodian provinces of Kandal and Siem Reap and met with the YAC chapters in these provinces.
