CDRP Plans to Serve the Urban Poor

With over US$25,000 to dole out in microfinance loans to Cambodia’s urban poor, the Cambodian Develo-pment Reduction Poverty will raise standards of living, according to the Cambodian Policy of Temporally Land Management (CPTLM) on Thursday.

Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction and President of CPTLM Im Chhun Lim said on September 3 that the funds would be provided at 8 percent per year interest to Cambodian poor in urban areas through microfinance and a crediting service.

“CPTLM is processing on this project; we have prepared some articles like owner assets, economic impact, and societal impact because the project does not ask donors to develop our country.”

“There are 300 illegal lands among 596 families in Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh Municipality who is resolved to them in temporarily,” he added.

He stressed that Cambodia, UNDP, UNHABITA, UN-ESCAP, English, Japan as well as India are good cooperated on reforming or preparing in the land management protocol.

Vice General Director of Department of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction Socheat Khemaro said that “All urban areas in Phnom Penh need to earn more benefits for Cambodians and it is a deep pressure for the business market and good for living.”

“To ensure our country to be green and human wellbeing” is the priority, Khemaro added.

Local authorities should resolve all concerns and determinate all buildings in urban areas; limit all unidentified land marks; census residents; note map markers of all location; consider to selecting areas for development; use appropriate policies to facilitate them; provide land certificates; support or provide public services; and limit all related constitutions to involve for the both sides on time resolution, he stressed.

Phnom Penh Deputy Municipal Governor Mann Chhoeun said that “We are very proud of the Cambodian Government got giving a chance to take the action for the full rights of Cambodian residents in urban areas who face hardships.”
