the long awaited Corruption Law will soon be released for public discussion and redrafting, according a parliamentarian explained Thursday morning on Cambodian Television Network (CTN).

Cambodian People Party (CPP) member and the parliamentarian Cheam Yeap said on the Internet Parliament Talk Show (IP Talk show) that “The law of corruption will be adoptrf in the first semester of 2010.”

After the Legal Code is adopted by the Cambodian Senate and signed by the King of Cambodia, the new Corruption Law will be law, Cheam Yeap added. “ The law is nearly finished , it is waiting for the criminal articles to set.”

Sam Rainsy, leader of the eponymous opposition party, told DAP News Cambodia on Thursday that “I welcome this if it is adopted soon. It is good news.”

“In my opinion, I think the new Corruption Law should be adopted in the fourth semester of 2009. There is no need to delay due to the first semester of 2010,” Rainsy said. Director of Khmer for Develop-ment National Institute San Chey told DAP News Cambodia that the Corruption Law “is just waiting for the Legal Code … This is the step forward for Cambodia.

Development will be better after the new law is set and processed.”

All the Cambodian members of parliament must attend a meeting on October 1, Cheam Yeap said. He added that the Committee of Law and Justice had set the agenda of the meeting.
