Court Rejects Mu Sochua’s Appeal

Cambodia’s Appeal Court has rejected the appeal of opposition lawmaker Mu Sochua against Prime Minister Hun Sen in the came of her defamation of the premier, an of Appeal Court statement obtained on Thursday said.

The Appeal Court upheld the ruling of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, prosecutor Ouk Savuth said.

“Everything was done correctly by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, including questions for both sides,” Savuth added. “We have seen the answers of Prime Minister Hun Sen from the Phnom Penh Court are fully legitimate. We do not need to ask Hun Sen anything more.”

“We decided to uphold the judgment of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court because that judgment is correct, well reasoned and reached using legal procedures.” In July this year, Mu Sochua lost a case of defamation case against PM Hun Sen. The Phnom Penh Municipal Court ordered Mu Sochua to pay compensation and fines of around US$3,750.

In July, PM Hun Sen filed a complaint to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court against her for defamation and insults after she remarks made in a press conference.

Mu Sochua previously filed a complaint against PM Hun Sen after he allegedly made comments referring to her in Kampot province, calling an unnamed woman “a strong legs lady in Kampot province.”
