Wheelchair racers Loem Sok (left) and Ek Leng compete during the 2009 ANZ Royal CNVLD Wheelie Grand Prix in Kampong Cham Saturday. Seventeen male and seven female wheelchair athletes participated over the 200-metre street course with Phnom Penh’s star sprinter Van Vun winning the men’s final in a time of 33.40 seconds, followed by fellow Phnom Penh resident Soeun Vanna in 36.12 secs and Eng Laihourn from Kien Khleang in 36.47 secs. In the women’s final, Battambang’s Kroem Vannon told gold in 45.28 secs ahead of Kampong Chhnang’s Um Sophat in 47.59 secs and Loet Ngait of Kampong Speu in 50.98 secs. Cambodian National Volleyball League (Disabled) General Secretary Christopher Minko said it was personally one of his proudest moments, as the first time the organisation staged a major public sporting event without any expatriate management assistance.
