TAKEO PROVINCE
A NEW US$500,000 market will open in Takeo Province later this year aimed at boosting rural productivity, the district governor has told the Post.

Deputy Prime Minister Sok An put forward the funds to create the Sok An Tunlorb Products Market. The centre – the first to be built under the “one village one product” scheme – will sell agricultural goods including rice, vegetables, corn, cassava and beans, Tek Tong Lim, governor of Kirivong district, said last week. It is set for completion by August 1.

“We will open free of charge to farmers who want to sell their goods here. In every commune around here they plant crops to sell in Phnom Penh. We are also trying to get businesses to come here to buy products,” Tek Tong Lim said Thursday.

The market is being built on 2,700 square metres of land next to National Road 2, 7 kilometres from the Cambodia-Vietnam international border crossing at Phnom Den.

Phar Chhor Da Construction Group started building the project last month.
