GUESTHOUSE RAID NETS FIVE GANGSTERS
Police in Daun Penh district raided a guesthouse in Srah Chak commune on Thursday, arresting five teenagers suspected of taking illegal drugs and engaging in bag-snatching. The teenagers were staying in different rooms at the time of the raid, but police believe they are part of the same “gang”. A motorcycle lacking a number plate was confiscated, and the five suspects have been sent to the Interior Ministry for questioning.

SIBLING RIVALRY GETS MAN SENT TO COURT
A 35-year-old man was sent to Phnom Penh Municipal Court after he allegedly slapped his kid sister unconscious on Thursday. The incident took place in Sen Sok district. Police said the sister, 30, had become intoxicated, and was arguing with her brother, and that he eventually grew frustrated and slapped her across the face, knocking her unconscious upon impact. The woman’s husband then intervened, stopping his brother-in-law from causing further harm, and reported him to police. Officers who arrived at the scene gave the siblings a chance to settle the case themselves, but the woman ultimately decided to file a domestic violence complaint against her brother.

POOR DINERS KILL MAN WITH MOTO
A 30-year-old man died instantly after being hit by a motorbike while crossing Mao Tse Tung Boulevard on Thursday, police said. The accident occurred after three men realised, upon finishing a leisurely meal at a beer garden, that they didn’t have enough money to pay for it. Two of the men went out to get more money, but in their intoxicated condition were quickly noticed by police, who proceeded to give chase. As it turned out, the alcohol impaired their ability to control the motorbike, and they ended up colliding with the 30-year-old man.

DOMESTIC DISPUTE ENDS IN HOME FIRE
A 35-year-old man in Kampong Speu province burned down his home on Wednesday evening when he couldn’t find any food in it, police said. After a night of heavy drinking, the man was starving upon his return home, and began searching for food while his wife was away selling shells at the local market. When his search proved fruitless, he began yelling for his wife, screaming louder and louder until she heard him and came to his aid. When she realised that her husband was in a surly state, however, they entered into an argument that ended only when the husband set their dwelling aflame. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but the family lost nearly all of their property, police said.
