ARROW SLAYS THIEF, FELLOW THIEVES SAY
A 19-year-old thief died in the middle of a crime spree on Tuesday night after one of his victims allegedly shot him with an arrow. The incident occurred in Battambang province’s Thmor Koul district, after the thief and two of his cohorts made off with cases of beer and cigarettes from a house in Tameun commune. Police said it was the second house they had knocked over that night. Upon realising he had been robbed, the owner of the house gave chase. The 19-year-old’s fellow bandits said the house owner shot him with an arrow, though this version of events has not been confirmed by authorities. The case has been sent to provincial court.

COPPER-WIRE CUTTING ROBBERS NABBED
Authorities in Siem Reap province have arrested two men – aged 35 and 18 – for cutting Telecom Cambodia telephone lines. Police detained the men at 2am on Wednesday after receiving a tip from the company. The suspects confessed to cutting the wires in the hope of selling the copper, and helpfully pointed out that they had done the same thing twice before, profiting handsomely after completing transactions in Phnom Penh. The case has been sent to provincial court.

JEWELLERY LOST TO RIVERFRONT CROOKS
Three men have been arrested on suspicion of stealing jewellery from a woman who was sitting along the riverfront in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district. The crime was allegedly committed at 3:30am on Friday, as the victim was sitting with her boyfriend, who apparently was unable to protect her from the roving pack of thieves. Police said the suspects – who are 24, 21 and 17 years old – made off with a necklace, a bracelet and “a piece of waist string”. They have all been sent to court.

TWO CAUGHT IN PLATINUM THEFT
Police in Kampot province’s Angkor Chey district have managed to catch two men accused of stealing a platinum necklace from a 15-year-old girl. The robbery allegedly occurred at 8:30pm on Wednesday, when the girl was walking back from a late class at school. All three men suspected of participating in the crime live in the same village as the victim, whose parents reported them to police at 10am the next day. The two captured men are 20 and 19. A third man remains on the run.
