Dufry Cambodia has renewed its duty-free contract in the country’s airports with Société Concessionaire de l'Aeroport (SCA), a joint venture between French Groupe Vinci and Malaysian/Cambodian company Muhhibah Masteron Cambodia.

The seven-year contract renews the previous agreement of the same length that expired in January and covers the retail operation at Cambodia’s two main international airports, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap–Angkor. Redevelopment of the 960sq m (10,333sq ft) retail space at both airports is set to start in June 2010, modernising them from traditional retail units to a walk-through style.

Confectionery and beauty will be the main beneficiaries of the development but the retailer will continue to carry the other core product categories including liquor and tobacco. “We are traditionally very strong in souvenir products such as small statues, paintings and silk scarves and shirts,” said general manager Andrew Guilfoyle. Dufry Cambodia works with Artisans d’Angkor.

Phnom Penh serves mainly business travellers and diplomats while Siem Reap serves primarily holidaymakers from the Asia/Pacific region, particularly Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese with additional Chinese and European passengers, the latter being predominantly French.
