WITNESSES SAY MAN KNIFED HIMSELF TO DEATH
A man witnesses described as mentally ill has died after he apparently stabbed himself with a knife, police in Banteay Meanchey province said. Witnesses reported that the man had asked passers-by for a knife, explaining that he was afraid that police were about to try and arrest him. Someone apparently gave him a knife. Witnesses said the man then stabbed himself in the head and stomach until he died. Police inspected the man’s corpse before giving the body to his family.

TAKEO WIRE CUTTER DIES OF ELECTROCUTION
Police in Takeo province said a 19-year-old man accidentally electrocuted himself to death after he tried to cut wires in a lamppost. Police said the man’s body was found with his clothes “completely burned”. The man had managed to cut the wires in a lamppost successfully on a previous occasion, police said.

CAPITAL POLICE ACT FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS LATER
Police in the capital’s Daun Penh district say they arrested 18 prostitutes and motor taxi drivers along the riverside, and accused the group of “causing anarchy”. Those arrested included eight prostitutes and 10 motor taxi drivers, three of whom were allegedly found with hidden weapons including a sword, an axe and a pipe. Police said the prostitutes would be sent to a municipal Social Affairs Department centre, the three taxi drivers found with weapons would be detained for questioning and the rest would be questioned and released if they were found not to have committed any crimes.

OBSESSION LEADS TO A RAPE CHARGE
Police have arrested a 26-year-old man who was accused of raping a woman in his village in Poipet province. The assault victim reported that the suspect constantly attempted to flirt with her, but that she always spurned his advances because she did not love him. When she was home alone, the man allegedly burst into her home and assaulted her. Police caught the man the next day.

HUSBAND SCCUSED OF MURDEREING WIFE
Police in Kampong Chhnang province have arrested a man suspected of killing his wife after the woman’s body was found hanging from a rope. Police said the suspect was drunk and got into an argument with his wife last Wednesday. The suspect denied killing his wife, though police found bruises on the woman’s neck and body, prompting the murder allegations.
