Former King and Queen Mother donates 10,000 US dollars to Cambodian Red Cross

Former King Norodom Sihanouk and queen monther Norodom Monineat has donated 10,000 US dollar to Cambodian Red Cross for helping in humanitarian affairs especially poor and vunerble people, the statement signed by the couple from Beijing obatined on Wednesday said.

The couple majesties also congraluated the general assembly of the Cambodian red Cross and praised Lok Chum teav Bun Rany Hun Sen, as chairwoman of the red cross,” the statement noted.

We all thanked for your role in contribution of helping poor and victims, and general citiziens,” the statement noted.

We all praised all staff of Cambodian red cross and highest chariwoman who conducted general assembly which will provided the benefits for our people,” it added.

This morning, Cambodian red Cross also chose 26 new members for leading its agencies to achiveve its goals. King Norodom Sihamoni also presided over the closing ceremony of the general assembly at Chaktomuk conference hall in Phnom Penh.

Cambodian FM Hor Nam Hong is Ready to Meet Thai DPM Suthep

CAMBODIA, PHNOM PENH, AUGUST 4,2010 - Cambodian foreign ministry said on Wednesday that foreign minister and deputy prime minister Hor Nam Hong are ready to meet Thai DPM Suthep on border issue.

“Deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation Hor Nam Hong will meet DPM Suthep on border issues if he visits here,” Koy Khuong, spokesman for foreign ministry said by phone.

The Thai Media system, Nation reported that DPM Suthep plans to meet Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on border issue if he got the green light from Thai PM Abhisit.

The military units at the ground are good relationship but the last development of border issue occurred when Thai side had sent environment and natural resources Minister Suwit to Brazil in a meeting on July 27 –August 3 to oppose the management plan of 11th Khmer Preah Vihear temple from Cambodia side. But Thai side failed to do so, Cambodia already submitted the plan.

Thai troops invaded Cambodian soil at area near Preah Vihear temple in July 15, 2008 and other places along border. Thai side has never processed the border agreement with Cambodia to its national assembly to be approved. Border demarcation process with Cambodia had blocked by Thai side.

PM Hun Sen Said Cambodia Expects 5 per cent for Economic Growth This Year

CAMBODIA, PHNOM PENH, AUGUST 4, 2010-Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday said that the country will expect to grow about 5 per cent for economic development after recovery from the global economic crisis.

“We have to try to expand more market for our product at foreign countries, keep old market and compete to enlarge market,” he told a graduation ceremony in Phnom Penh.

We are not trying to compete to show military muscle but compete for enlargement of exporting products for getting revenues for economic growth,” he added.

Cambodia is still confident on agricultural sector that are potential for country, contributing about 34 per cent of GDP. Garment sector also recovered with optimistic signs, increasing about 10 per cent if comparing with the same period of last year.

It got about 1.5 Billion US dollars and tourism sector also soared about the 11 per cent for first semester of this year, and last year about 2 million tourists arrived here getting revenue about 2 billion US dollars last year. Foreign direct investment stood about 2 billion US dollars.

Cambodia encouraged foreign investors to focus on agro-industry and create rice mill for drying rice for exporting to foreign markets. Tourism investment also gets incentives and support from government, and the hydropower plants got investment of billions of dollars is in processing to get cheap price for electricity. Government also updated development plan for 2010-2013 to expand economic development. Stock exchange plans to open in July 2011.

PM Hun Sen Tells Local People Not to Concern about Preah Vihear Temple’s Deal

CAMBODIA, PHNOM PENH, AUGUST 4, 2010-Cambodian PM Hun Sen on Wednesday told the publics not to worry about the management plan of Preah Vihear temple even the yellow shirt group in Thailand has stirred the situation of border with Cambodia.

“Please, be confident on the government for management plan of Preah Vihear temple and border issues,” he told a graduation ceremony of a university in Phnom Penh. He continued that military commanders from Thailand and Cambodia have met regularly for good relationship and understandings among them at the ground.

The government also submitted the plan with UNESCO and believed with the government on that deal,” he added.

Thailand sent the environment and natural resources minister to oppose the management plan of 11th Khmer Preah Vihear temple that Cambodia submitted to world heritage center in Brazil in a meeting on July 27-3 August. Thailand has tried to use a toxicant campaign to oppose Cambodia. But it failed its plan.

Thailand invaded Cambodia on July 15, 2008 through sending troops to occupy Cambodia at area near Preah Vihear and later claimed 4.6 square km as their land through own secretly map in 1976.

Cambodian PM Hun Sen Orders to Stop Importing Pig Provisionally after Disease Spread

CAMBODIA, PHNOM PENH, AUGUST 4, 2010-Cambodian PM Hun Sen on Wednesday ordered to stop temporarily importing pigs from the neighboring countries after the pig disease has hit the some places in the countries.

"We have to stop temporarily importing pig after we are concerned on diseases,” he told a graduation ceremony in Phnom Penh.

Cambodia so far has allowed importing 800 pigs per day from Thailand and Cambodia had imported about one million pigs per year from Thailand alone and that the country had lost about 45 million US dollars a year to the farmers' pockets. The country lacks about 700 to 800 pigs per day. Across Cambodia, over 4,000 pigs are needed for daily consumption, Pov Srun said previously. Each year Cambodia lost estimated 700 million US dollars per years, pig farmers estimated. Cambodia has imported pig from Vietnam and Thailand. Some areas of provinces bordering with Vietnam has occurred pig disease.
