Newly appointed Cambodian national football team head coach Sejin Yeo of South Korea arrived in Phnom Penh late on Friday night, a day before the conclusion of the domestic season, which Football Federation of Cambodia President Sao Sokha hailed as the best and most competitive in the Kingdom’s history.

The FFC chief, who is also Commander of the Military Police, said it would be a dawn of hope for the country’s footballing fortunes under the new Korean tactician, who held a sturdy reputation back home as a dedicated coach.

“In all likelihood, the new coach will be taking the national team on a 45-day intensive training programme to neighbouring Vietnam in preparation for the 2010 Suzuki Cup scheduled to be played there [in December].”

It has been indicated that a private club will take care of the Cambodian team’s hospitality during the trip.

Quoting Preah Khan Reach’s entry to the playoff final as a shining example of a side scaling new heights, Sao Sokha said: “Next year it could be any other team getting into the top tier. Teams should not lose heart; they must work hard to get better results.”

Sejin Yeo, who is on a one-year contract, is expected to assume his duties soon. The 38-year old former coach of the Korean women’s A team was in the stands of Olympic Stadium on Saturday, keenly watching prospective candidates ahead of his squad selection during the final showdown between Phnom Penh Crown and Preah Khan Reach.
