Siem Reap

MICROFINANCE institution Hattha Kaksekar launched a new Siem Reap office yesterday, taking advantage of National Bank of Cambodia permission to allow deposits.

The MFI’s General Manager Hout Ieng Tong said it had a total of eight offices with 101 employees in Siem Reap province.

He said that it lends US$5.5 million to 6,200 customers in the province.

Siem Reap Governor Sou Phirin at the office launch yesterday urged Cambodians to use savings accounts, highlighting their relative safety and contribution to economic growth.

“If more people used bank accounts, they avoid stealing or gambling,” he said. RANN REUY
