80,734 Tourists Visit Preah Vihear in First Six Months

Phnom Penh, September 3, 2010 AKP -- During the first six months of this year, the total number of visitors to Preah Vihear province, about 294 kilometers north of Phnom Penh capital city, saw an increase.

According to a report of the provincial authorities, for the first semester of 2010, some 80,734 tourists, of them 5,773 foreigners, visited the province.

The report attributed the increase to the province’s cultural and eco-tourism potentiality – especially the Preah Vihear Temple, a World Heritage Site, which stands on the Dangrek Mountain at the border with Thailand – and the local authorities’ efforts in promoting the province’s tourism.

The provincial authorities have so far published 3,000 copies of the book on Preah Vihear’s tourism resorts and products, of them 1,700 are in Khmer and the rest in English, it said. --AKP
