Party leader welcomes neighbour army chiefs

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nong Duc Manh, has called the Chinese, Lao and Cambodian Defence Ministers’ visit as evidence of their strong support for Vietnam in its capacity as ASEAN chair.

The Party leader made the statement during his reception of Minister Liang Guanglie from China, Minister Douangchay Phichit from Laos, and Minister Tea Banh from Cambodia, in Hanoi on October 10, who came to attend the first ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting plus (ADMM+).

Mr Manh expressed satisfaction with the current development of the comprehensive strategic partnership with China, traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos and the good neighbourliness and long-lasting relations with Cambodia.

He highlighted close and effective cooperation between the Vietnamese armed forces with their counterparts from the three neighbours.

He reiterated the nation’s unswerving policy of treasuring the good neighbourliness with China, Laos and Cambodia in the interests of individual countries and for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world as a whole.

All the three army chiefs of neighbouring countries lauded the careful preparation by Vietnam for the first ADMM+, which they said was an important forum for military officers from the 10-member ASEAN and its partner armies to exchange views, promote mutual understanding and accelerate cooperation for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

Chinese Defence Minister Liang emphasized that China’s policy of respecting traditional relations with Vietnam.

The two ministries of defence and the armed forces will always follow high-level commitments and promote close and effective cooperation in order to contribute to comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, said the Chinese minister.

He highlighted two mottos that bilateral relations should be based for development, namely “Friendly neighbourliness, comprehensive cooperation, long-lasting stability and looking towards the future” as well as “Good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners”.

The Lao Defence Minister, Duongchay Phichit, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, expressed thanks to Vietnam for its “Great and sincere assistance” in national construction and defence in Laos.

“The Lao Party, State, people and army have attached great importance to the development of the special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Vietnam ,” said the Lao army chief.

He pledged to keep the relationship ever green and sustainable.

Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Bank, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, pledged that the Cambodian army will maintain strong cooperation with the Vietnam People’s Army, thus contributing to the development of traditional solidarity and close neighbourliness between the two countries.

The host did not forget to convey his wishes for the best of health to leaders of the three neighbouring countries, especially their top leaders, namely General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party cum President Chummali Saynhasone, and Cambodian King Sihamoni./.
