MUSICIANS from the Francophone community have launched a charity CD to raise money for French citizens in need in Cambodia.

Volunteers from the Association of Mutual Aid for French citizens in Cambodia (AEFC), a group that was launched in 2008, are selling the 15-song CD for $5.

“People don’t realise it, but in fact, there is a real need for assistance from people of all ages,” said French consul Roger Brattin, who supports the association and wrote the lyrics of several songs.

“We work closely with the consular services and take over issues when it’s no longer their responsibility,” explained AEFC President Jean-Claude Garen about the group’s work. The association, which has about 80 members, offers a wide range of services.

These range from giving advice to new residents when they want to open a business, to helping people who are not covered by insurance in case of medical emergencies. It can also be helpful in cases where relatives die in Cambodia or run into legal problems.

The CD was designed and produced in Cambodia. The lead single, called In My Eyes, is sung in French, English and Khmer and a video clip can also be seen on YouTube.

An AEFC event will be organised soon to promote this CD and on Friday, Topaz restaurant will host an auction to benefit the group’s work. Among the auction lots are a signed photo of French singer songwriter Yves Duteil, and a sculpture.
