CAMBODIAN officials in Thailand are seeking lawyers to defend three Cambodian citizens arrested on Wednesday by Thai police on suspicion of illegally crossing the border to cut down trees in Thailand. Foreign Ministry spokesman Koy Kuong said yesterday that consular staff were working with Thai authorities to arrange legal representation. The trio were part of a team of seven who allegedly snuck over the border close to Thlok village, in Banteay Meanchey province’s Thmor Puok district. Four of the men eluded Thai authorities and managed to escape back to Cambodia. Local officials said last week the other three were caught in possession of 50 AK-47 bullets and various logging equipment.

Another villager, Puth Yoeun, has been accused of illegally living on the company’s land in Omlaing commune.

ACTRESS Sven Socheata is moving forward with an official complaint against the military officials who shot her during a scuffle at a film crew party in Siem Reap province last week, rights workers said. Sous Narin, provincial coordinator for rights group Adhoc, said the actress did not drop her charges as previously reported, a move she had proposed if the police dropped their own charges against her friends. Ngem Sila, deputy military police chief for Siem Reap, said a military police inspection team was dispatched yesterday to probe the case.
