Cambodia, Thailand To Meet in Phnom Penh for Ceasefire Talks

Phnom Penh, April 27, 2011 AKP – Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense H.E. Tea Banh has accepted his Thai counterpart’s proposal to discuss the ceasefire between the two countries in Phnom Penh, according to a statement of Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense.

RCAF Is Not Trained to Invade Other Countries

Phnom Penh, April 27, 2011 AKP – “The Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) is not indoctrinated, trained and equipped to invade neighboring countries and has no history of doing so,” stressed the Ministry of National Defense in a statement on Monday.

Information Minister: Human Trafficking Is a Serious Human Rights Violation

Phnom Penh, April 27, 2011 AKP – The Royal Government of Cambodia has regarded human trafficking as a serious form of human rights violation, Minister of Information H.E. Khieu Kanharith told a workshop to raise media’s awareness about human trafficking held here yesterday at Sunway Hotel.

The Cambodian information minister also expressed the royal government’s strong determination to combat human trafficking, stressing that laws on combating human trafficking and sexual exploitation have been set up and many mechanisms have been established at national and sub-national levels.

It is a modern slavery that the world has been facing, said H.E. Khieu Kanharith.

The increasing demand of labor force and the increasing revenue people can have in fast developing countries as well as local development gap between rural and urban areas are the main encouraging factors for risky migration and vulnerable human trafficking and exploitation, he added. –AKP
